To some, tattoos were seen as a symbol of rebellion and disobedience. Fortunately, tattoos aren’t judged as much as they were before. This form of art is becoming more acknowledged and accepted, especially in our society today. Our mission is to explore the diversity within the tattoo community and show the different types of tattoo art in the 21st century. Each of our artists fit within our gallery because they all have a passion for tattooing but they each have different styles of tattoo art. We want to show these different styles and describe how their work supports our gallery vision of tattoos.
Tattooing is a very subjective form of art, everyone who has a tattoo has a reason behind it or they may not have a reason at all. Especially among artists the meaning behind every tattoo that they create can vary two artist can create similar representation with vastly different intents. All of the artist we have picked out have vastly different forms of tattooing and drive behind them yet the medium they choose to display their ideals is the same.
Through these artist's work we hope to show the vast diversity in the world of body art and how just about anybody can find an art style that might represent them. How the belief that they represented rebellion has been dismantled and how they are now viewed as a form of individuality and self expression.
One of the artist we showcased was Dillon Forte who uses Sacred geometry in his art style. The reason i chose him was because his tattoos implement spirituality and the separate structures belonging to a whole system. Two other artists that we researched included: Mister Cartoon and Dr. Woo who both experiment with fine line tattoo styles. Both artists specialize in intricate details in their work. Lastly, Derek Chung specializes in Southeast Asian tattoo work; highlighting the strength and pride of the culture.
